Umar is an electrical engineer with 10 years’ experience in sustainable energy and power system integration of energy storage, optimisation of power and renewable energy. He has worked for national utility companies in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and in the US. At Compass Power Solutions in Nigeria, Umar worked as an engineer responsible for design and construction of electrical panels. He has expertise in equipment testing and worked as a commissioning officer and a former instructor specializing in energy generation at the National Power Academy & Saudi Electric Service Polytechnic in Saudi Arabia. Umar is a Microsoft Azure machine learning scholar, he completed the foundation course for nano degree in machine learning and data Science. Umar’s skills include modelling & optimization of complex systems, energy management, energy systems, hybrid energy storage, smart grid and machine learning application in power systems. He has authored over 12 published papers in the field, these include: A review of improvements in power system flexibility: implementation, operation and economics; Deficit in leadership qualities negating efforts in curtailing climate change; optimal sizing of battery energy storage for grid-connected and isolated wind-penetrated microgrid.
